Motorcycle racing

Bikes turn by leaning, up to about 55 degrees. They accelerate hard and reach high speeds, but brake and grip less than a car, so brake earlier. Turn the handlebars on screen and the bike leans with them.

  • First-person rider view that leans with the bike
  • Hit something too hard and you fall; you are back on track after about 2 seconds
  • 5 bikes, including the off-road-tyred DUNE 77

Car racing

Top-speed, acceleration, handling or braking: every sports car has its own character. In races of two laps or more the tyres wear and you decide when to pit.

  • Pit lane limit 80 km/h, the crew changes tyres in about 4.5 seconds
  • Tuck into a rival's slipstream for less drag and more speed on the straight
  • Cockpit view where the wheel itself is the control

Off-road racing

Beach, desert and jungle. Sand, dirt and mud all slow you down, least of all for vehicles with big tyres and long suspension. Mega jumps throw you into the air; keep the wheel straight before you land.

  • Mega jumps, runs of big waves, grass tufts and boulders
  • Trucks, wagons, tube-frame buggies and quad bikes
  • A roll-cage cockpit view for the four-wheelers, a rider's-bars view for the quad

Formula racing

Race on top-class circuits: permanent tracks, street tracks and hybrids. The faster you go the more grip you get, so fast corners often need no braking. Soft, medium and hard tyres; races of two laps or more demand a pit stop.

  • DRS: from lap 2, within one second of the car ahead in a DRS zone the rear wing opens by itself
  • ERS energy and sector times (purple / green / yellow)
  • Qualifying Q1 to Q3 sets the grid; the top ten score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points

Your feel, your choice

Beginners get help; veterans can do it all themselves.

Three ways to steer

Three ways to steer

The default is a wheel in the middle of the screen: drag to turn, let go and it springs back. Or tilt the phone, or use left and right buttons.

Three levels of driving help

Three levels of driving help

Easy brakes for corners, follows the racing line, steers round cars ahead, and starts you third on the grid. Normal only steps in when you are about to leave the road. Hard leaves everything to you.

Nitro

Nitro

Hold nitro for 16% more top speed and harder acceleration. It recharges by itself; use it on straights, because in a corner it will take you wide.

Manual paddle shifting

Manual paddle shifting

Shift yourself if you like. Upshift when the rev lights turn blue for a "perfect shift" and an extra burst of speed; too early and you lose power, too late and you hit the limiter.

Three camera views

Three camera views

Chase, cockpit (or rider) and far view; switch with the camera button during a race.

You feel the hits

You feel the hits

The phone buzzes when you hit a wall, a car or a kerb, and sparks fly. The race official calls the countdown, laps, pit stops and the finish with the phone's built-in voice.
